A New Beginning

It's been a little while since I've written on my blog. There are a number of reasons why, but I'm also writing to announce some changes as to the content of this site.

The Law Society of Upper Canada often performs spot audits on lawyers with a particular focus on lawyers who have recently started up their own firms. I am part of that category. I've been trying to accommodate the requests of the audit while at the same time attempting to carry out business as usual. Fortunately for me, I've got great staff behind me who have worked extra hard to make things go over smoothly.

It's also been near the end one month and the beginning of another, so there are usually many real estate closings happening at this time. Everything seems to have gone off without a hitch, and it seems to be a slower time for all lawyers. I guess it's just the winter blahs.

Speaking of beginnings, this brings me to the next part of my posting. I recently attended a conference for sole practioners and lawyers from small firms. In speaking with many experienced bloggers, the consensus seems to be that legal articles are boring to the general public. Thinking back to my law school days, I can understand that view. After all, reading over 100 pages per week about the concept of contributory negligence isn't the most interesting thing to read about, especially when there is a lot more to read on the web.

So starting from today, I'm going to take a different approach. While I will continue to write articles related to legal aspects, I'll also post some of my own thoughts on topics. I guess you can't always be serious.
