Goodman and Carr: The Fall of an Empire

Making front page news on the business section of The Star today was news of the apparent wind up of the firm Goodman and Carr LLP. Most lawyers and law students will have heard of this firm, and it's quite a surprise to outsiders, such as myself, to hear of this news.

Although the shutdown looks imminent, I wouldn't count the firm out just yet. Despite any disagreements or conflicts I've had with the firm before on a professional basis, it is still guided by some very gifted legal and business minds. It wouldn't surprise me if somehow the partners found a way to make it work again.

However, having said all that, I realize that many of their past and present clients will be looking for a new home that provides them with stability from turmoil. I would be glad to accept any clients coming from Goodman and Carr and provide them with the quality of service that they deserve.

In the next few weeks, many other bloggers and news agencies will be posting stories from lawyers and staff, both past and present, with their stories of issues in the firm; issues which would never appear within my practice.
